The “Differentiate” page of my site is a collection of formative and summative assessments created using the “KUDs” and scales available on my Articulate page. It was a challenge to create general assessments that would fit each of the students’ projects. Since Natural Resources is a project-based course I was able to focus first on the summative assessments (the deliverables) and then the cycle of formative assessments needed to achieve the targeted goals.
While projects vary, the summative assessments are based on the following principles:
Educate - The ability for students to clearly communicate their scientific research and data to a 5th grade audience using such things as pamphlets and models.
Analyze - The ability for a student to design a scientific experiment and analyze the results to form a reasonable conclusion.
Design - The ability for a student to use their research and data to design feasible solutions.
The formative assessments are a series of Journal entries students will submit using our Moodle site so that I know they are on track throughout the semester long course.
The only unit students are actually “tested” in is our mapping unit. I have not shared these assessments as they are actual tests and quizzes.
